We are proud to introduce ARTIFICE Pearlescent from the ILLUSIO faux finish product line. This 100% acrylic latex paint produces a unique iridescent sheen that adds a magical touch to your interiors. Whether applied as is, or combined with interesting faux finishing techniques, the result is a rich finish and an exceptional new look. The sheen level will vary depending on lighting and the direction in which the pigments are applied and this variation adds an extraordinary depth to the finish. Because of the semi-transparent nature of Pearlescent's 5 basic colours, the possibilities -- to create an infinite range of colours and effects -- are endless.

Pearlescent can be applied in an overlay technique (over other colours) to create new colours or, it can be intensified by applying two coats. It can also be used to create exciting new faux finishing techniques or blended with glaze to enhance its semi-transparent effect. Because of its directional pigments, Pearlescent will produce a greater effect if applied in a consistently random manner.

It is therefore recommended, especially on large surfaces, to randomly apply the paint, regardless of which application tool or process is being used. This random application method enhances the pearlescent finish and intensifies the iridescent feel, without leaving obvious brush strokes or patterns. For an even coating, the Pearlescent paint should be applied with a paint-sprayer only.

Pearlescent's semi-transparent

Available in 5 pre-mixed colours, ARTIFICE Pearlescent paint has a semi-transparent formula which allows for varying effects - all of which are determined by the application process. For example, when Pearlescent is applied over a latex paint, colour other than white, the overlaying of the Pearlescent colour will create a completely NEW iridescent colour. Because this creates endless possibilities for new colours, we recommend that you test your colours and techniques on a practice board first. To deepen the Deep Gold and Copper Pearlescent bases you can add black colorant.

For example, to enhance or create exceptional effects on decorative objects, combine the iridescent effects of ARTIFICE Pearlescent with Dunes Suede finishes. Be sure to try out your faux-finish technique on a practice board first. This will help you get comfortable with the technique you have chosen and will also help establish the colours and patterns that work best for your desired effect. For best results when working on large surfaces (such as walls), use large practice boards and place in the room you will be working on, to view test piece the correct lighting. Carefully mask the areas that you do not want painted. Use easy-to-remove masking tape (for wet paint) to prevent base colour from peeling off and always remove it as soon as your work is finished.
